Freezing Summer Melt

On Monday May 9th, the Higher Education Compact partnered with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) and College Now to prevent summer melt.

Summer melt, unfortunately, has little to do with ice cream. The term refers to the trend of students being accepted into a postsecondary institution – and maybe even sending in a deposit – and ultimately failing to enroll or attend. (more…)

Go Higher Ohio: Ohio’s 2025 Postsecondary Attainment Goal

Breaking News: Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor John Carey announced the state’s new attainment goal on Monday, May 9, at Columbus State Community College during the Go Higher Ohio: Summit on Post-Secondary Education Attainment. That goal? To have 65% of Ohioans hold a postsecondary degree or credential by 2025.

Currently, only 43% of Ohioans hold either a two-year or four-year degree or credential, yet 56% of “in-demand jobs” in Ohio require some education beyond high school. According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, these numbers will grow to encompass 64% of Ohio jobs by 2020. (more…)
