The purpose of the Higher Education Compact Best Practices Forum is to bring together national experts, local practitioners, and community members to learn about and discuss best practices, promising trends, and key research that will enhance our efforts to help students prepare for college, enroll in college, and earn a degree.
Best Practices Forum: Changes to the 2017-18 FAFSA
On June 2nd, 2016 the Higher Education Compact convened College Now advisors, Cleveland Metropolitan School District counselors, higher education representatives, and community partners at Cuyahoga Community College to talk upcoming reforms to the FAFSA. MorraLee Keller of the National College Access Network and Angela Johnson of Cuyahoga County Community College outlined the impact these changes will have on higher education, high school staff, and students.
Best Practices Forum: Rethinking Family Engagement
In January 2017, the Higher Education Compact’s Best Practices Forum featured Tracy Hill, executive director of CMSD’s Family and Community Engagement Office who shared some of the programming offered at CMSD aimed at increasing the involvement of parents of high school students, including Parent University and College Bus Tours. Alongside Tracy were two parents of CMSD graduates, Krista Evans and Nakiaa Jennings, who shared their experiences as parents of high school students and what they did to keep their children motivated to pursue a college degree.
